Barren Trees is a very difficult piece for an excellent high band or good college group. The writing is quite intricate, with difficult parts throughout the band. Pyramids and chromatic passages are used often. The piece is a drums, tenor sax and guitar feature. Changes are modern and unusual. This is a 9 1/2 minute piece.
